College Diploma - Computer Studies (Optional Co-op)

Academic Requirements

For the College Diploma in Computer Studies (Optional Co-op) program, the Academic Requirements are as follows:

Domestic Applicants:

• BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent) or 19 years of age or older.

International Applicants:

• BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent).

Additional Requirements:

• One of the following within the last three years:
  • A minimum "C" grade in Precalculus 12; or
  • A minimum score of 75 on the Langara College Mathematics Diagnostic Test.

Applicant Notes:

• Admission to a program at Langara College does not guarantee registration in required courses.
• Students admitted to this program may need to take one or more additional English courses in order to meet the prerequisite requirements of the English courses required in this program.

For international students, it is important to note that transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

Co-operative Education Requirements:

• To be admitted and participate in the co-operative education option, you must:
  • Be enrolled in three or more program courses (minimum nine credits), not including EXPE 2300 (formerly BUSM 2300/COOP 2300);
  • Achieve and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.6 in each term;
  • Successfully complete an employability assessment interview with a co-op officer; and
  • Complete EXPE 2300 (formerly BUSM 2300/COOP 2300) with a minimum "C" grade.

Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction at Langara College. All applicants are required to be proficient in listening, reading, speaking, and writing in English at a post-secondary level.

Most programs fall into one of the three categories below. Refer to the 'Admissions' tab of the program listing for the full requirements or see our complete list of programs by category.

Must meet one of the English Language Requirements or Proficiency Assessments below:

• English First Peoples 12 - 50%
• English Studies 12 - 50%
• Literary Studies 12 - 50%
• Langara English Test (LET) - 2
• Langara English Course - A minimum "S" grade in ENGL 1107 or 1110; or a minimum "C" grade in ENGL 1120
• English (Post-Secondary Transfer) - D
• International Baccalaureate - IB ENGL A (HL or SL): 2; IB ENGL LIT & PERFORM (SL): 2
• Advanced Placement - AP ENGL LIT & COMP: 2; AP ENGL LANG & COMP: 2
• GCSE O-Level English, GCSE English Language B - D

Applicants unable to meet the English Language Requirements must satisfy one of the following English Proficiency requirements:

• English for Academic Purposes (EAP) - Level IV (EAP Level IV)
• Language Proficiency Index (LPI) - 24
• IELTS Academic - 6.5
• Duolingo English Test - 110
• TOEFL (IBT) - Overall: 80; Writing: 20; Reading: 20; Listening: 18; Speaking: 18
• CAEL - Overall: 60
• Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) - 56
• Four Years of Study in an English Language Education System - full-time secondary or post-secondary study in English
